Purple Palm Tree Delight is an indica-dominant hybrid strain that likely originates from an exotic purple variety, possibly a Purple Haze cross, brought from British Columbia to the US. Its roots trace back to the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan in the late 1970s, when the Soviet Union experimented with high-THC cannabis extracts for programs similar to MK Ultra but later abandoned these efforts. This high-grade indica hybrid escaped from a Russian research lab and made its way to Canada via seeds carried by a defector. The CIA then sold this cultivar as part of a domestic anti-communist operation. In the 1980s, underground US retail networks gave it various names such as Canadian P, B.C.P, and "the P," though "Purple Palm Tree Delight" became the most recognized after appearing in a Run DMC rap song.
